From 22 November until 5 January you will discover why the World Heritage Site of Bruges is the top destination during the winter months.
Around Christmas and new year, the new winter festival “Winter Glow” takes place, giving you a lot of opportunities to enjoy the warmth and lights of the city. There will be two light and experience walks, offering plenty of surprises as you pass light installations along the way. There will also be an artificial skating rink on the lake in Minnewaterpark, with a winter bar offering heart-warming drinks. And don’t forget the Christmas and winter market with its many chalets, a great place to pick up some original gifts. Large, beautifully decorated Christmas trees can be found in a number of locations.
To round it all up, there will be many concerts, activities, and entertainment in the small, intimate area of Bruges’ old center.
Experience the enchanting glow of Christmas in Bruges this winter as never before! Two special illuminated walks will lead you through the magically lit city, with surprises at every turn with dynamic light installations, atmospheric lighting and projections. The light spectacle is both contemporary experience and a glimpse of Bruges’ rich history and vision for the future. Alternating organic and natural displays of light are projected onto gables, trees, and benches, allowing the viewer to experience Bruges from a whole new perspective. There are two illuminated walks: from the Stationsplein to the Minnewaterpark and from the Stationsplein to ’t Zand via the Albert park. You can also enjoy the unique light displays on the Markt.

Jan van Eyck brings on a revolution in the history of painting in the Low Countries between circa 1420 and 1441. Worldwide, only 20 works by Van Eyck have been preserved. Quite exceptionally, over half of these will travel to Ghent in 2020 for the exhibition ‘Van Eyck. An optical revolution’ at the Museum of Fine Arts (MSK). In what promises to be an unmissable, must-see exhibition, the world of Van Eyck and his revolutionary gaze will be brought to life like never before.
